About Marks

Alexa Champion Marks, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is a long-time advocate of wellness. Alexa’s passion in educating and supporting patients on their journey towards wellness followed a life-changing, year-long battle with breast cancer. One of her greatest gifts to herself was losing over 100 pounds. While still an ongoing journey, maintaining that 100-pound loss offers her a unique perspective when caring for patients at NPWC.

Having grown up in the DMV area, she first earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Rhetoric and Writing from the University of Maryland, followed by graduate coursework in cultural studies at Georgetown University. She hosted a radio talk show on health, nutrition, and fitness on her college radio station and taught aerobics. She has also worked as a certified personal trainer and as a school health assistant in Loudoun County Public Schools. Alexa graduated magna cum laude from Shenandoah University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN).

After graduating with her BSN, Alexa worked as an ER nurse. While working on her Master of Science in Nursing at University of South Alabama (USA), she cared for home-bound patients in home health, focusing on diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and nutrition issues. She also worked in occupational health and wellness for four years. Alexa graduated summa cum laude with her MSN and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. In the last three years, she has taught on the faculty of George Washington University School of Nursing and Northern Virginia College’s nursing program and Department of Health Science.
